Class of 2026

On June 17, 2026, we took part in the convocation of faculty of mathematics, university of Waterloo. Our daughter has graduated form David R. Cheriton School of Computer Science, obtained her bachelor degree. She realized my dream to become a member of the university of waterloo.

Now I know the faculty of mathematics has 4 departments: Pure mathematics, Statistical and Actuarial Science, Combinatorics and Optimization, Computer Science. It is amazing that, the number of graduates in the first 3 departments is less than one-tenth of the number of graduates in computer science.

The Chancellor announced the Waterloo formula: stay curious, think big, take risks, or keep asking questions, be ambitious, and put ideas into action. He said that, failure is not the opposite of success, but the cost of success. This saying is more concrete than the old Chinese saying: failure is the mother of success.

I studied pure mathematics, and feel proud to make contributions to the fundamental research in mathematics and physics. My achievement will allow mathematicians to achieve more in their research.
